Physically challenged keen to set foot in DU
The number of physically challenged students seeking admissions in the Delhi University is gradually increasing as over 300 students enquired about admissions in the disabled category in the first week of the process.
While only 20 students reported on the first two days at the admission centre. However the numbers picked up over a week’s period of time with as many as 72 students reported on one single day.
“For the first time, 72 students reported on one single day under the disabled category. We are hopeful that with the spread of information more and more students will join and avail the facilities,” Seema Parihar, deputy dean students welfare (DSW), and incharge of the centre for special children said. The university has a dedicated centre at the DSW office, equipped with trained experts and counsellors as well as well sign language experts.
There are over 1,600 reserved seats, that is three per cent of the total seats, for specially-abled students in the DU. However, not all seats get filled as only 400-500 students seek admissions under this category.
Last year, 397 physically challenged students reported for admissions.
