Plan panel organises Twitter meet on Gandhi

Netizens on Wednesday paid tribute to the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 144th birth anniversary on various micro-blogging sites, invoking the late leader philosophy and hailing his “contribution” in country’s independence movement.
They also paid rich homage to late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 109th birth anniversary.
On Twitter, keywords like #Gandhiji KaChashma #Gandhi #Gandhibeforindia #Lal Bahadur Shastri were trending in India throughout the day. Indian ambassador to the United States, Nirupama Rao wrote from her twitter handle: “It is so important to carry the message of Gandhiji in our minds: he is our friend, philosopher and guide. A truly modern man.” “Gandhi has learned the mankind the meaning of peace, tolerance, kindness, goodness and humanity is the great religion.(sic)”, read a tweet.
Another tweeter user commented: “He made our lives to live independently He laid path to our independence and taught us the value of Peace (sic).”
Paying tribute to Shastri, Congress leader Digvijay singh tweeted: ”We pay homage to Lal Bahadur Shastri ji a picture of Humility and Simplicity which we seldom see these days (sic).”
“Today, I reaffirm my dedication to the ideals of two of the greatest Indians who ever lived, Mahatma Gandhi & Lal Bahadur Shastri (sic),” read a comment R.P.N. Singh.
The Planning Commission also organised a global Twitter conference to discuss the life and message of Gandhi to mark his birth anniversary.
“The Twitter conference is expected to be joined by Kartikeya Sarabhai, Trustee of Sabarmati Ashram, other Gandhians and several other people from world over,” tweeted National Innovation Council chairman Sam Pitroda.
