Plan to showcase culture during Games
The Delhi government and the Common-wealth Games Organising Committee on Thursday finalised a series of events to be staged across the city to offer a taste of country’s folklore, music and dance to the visitors during Games. The Delhi government has selected 15 venues in the city where cultural festivals will be held regularly during the course of the event to be held from October 3 to 14.
“This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our cultural heritage to the entire world and we are putting a lot of efforts to carefully select the programmes for the events,” said a senior official in the chief minister’s office. The official added that the cultural programmes will be held at various venues including the Games Village, Red Fort, Mehrauli Fort, Purana Qila, Kamini auditorium during Games.
All the cultural events in the city during the Games will be organised by the Delhi government in close coordination with Union culture ministry and the Games Organising Committee.
The programmes will likely feature folk and classical dances, classical music, fusion music, theatre and films as well as other creative skills, art and craft. Meanwhile, the officials have also confirmed that there will be a host of renowned artistes and singers to perform in the events.
“All the cultural programmes are being selected very carefully as we want the spectators to keep the memories of the event for a long time,” said a senior official.
