Police to boost arsenal with new weapons
The Delhi police is set to strengthen its arsenal with modern weapons. Police officials said that weapons like Glock pistols and MP-5 sub machine guns will be added to its armoury this year along with modern investigating tools like automated call detail records analysis kit and high-end forensic workstation.
As per its modernisation plans for the year, the force will be procuring 1,368 MP-5 sub machine guns and 3,440 Glock pistols.
“These are likely to be received soon as Delhi police has made the payment to the authority concerned,” a senior police official said.
This is in addition to 1,000 Glock pistols, 900 AK-47, 513 MP-5 sub machine guns and 31 nine mm pistols for which allocation is awaited from the home ministry.
The police had last year purchased latest and advanced weaponry, which included 700 INSAS rifles, 503 nine mm pistols and 59 AK-47 rifles.
The official said they were also in the process of buying an Automated CDR Analysis Tool Kit and High-End Forensic Workstation to help its investigators deal with cases, including terror-related ones.
The police is also in the process of buying 10 Explosive Detectors, 35 Under Vehicle Video Scanners, five Bomb Blankets and four X-Ray baggage scanners under police modernisation scheme.
The other purchases of the Delhi police include 33 Toyota Innova cars and eight Maruti Gypsies for the Police Control Room and police stations.
