Police team in Hardwar to rescue victim
A Delhi police team rushed to Hardwar early Monday to retrieve child, a day after a 57-year-old sadhvi and her six aides were arrested for running a child trafficking racket. The police said seven persons, including a sadhvi identified as Binaji Maharaj, a childless couple identified as Afroz and Mona in addition to Mohammad Zuber, Saira Khusboo and Nanhi, the sadhvi’s partners in crime, were arrested in Neb Sarai on Sunday.
Police officials said the seven-member gang had allegedly been kidnapping children from and selling them to childless couples over the last two years. “The children are aged between one and seven. The gang had also been active in neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan for the last two years,” said a senior police official.
The police has so far traced and rescued nine victims who were kidnapped to be sold to childless couples in four states.
Sources revealed that the price fixed for a child varied between `50,000 and `60,000. “We are yet to trace three to four kids. A team has already been dispatched to Hardwar to rescue one of them,” the officer said.
Investigators stumbled upon the racket while investigating several kidnappings reported from Neb Sarai and Sangam Vihar in southeast Delhi.
