Prayer meet to mark 13th anniversary
The convenor of the Association of Victims of Uphaar Tragedy (AVUT Neelam Krishnamoorthy on Saturday said that incidents like the Uphaar fire tragedy, in which 59 people were killed in 1997, and the Bhopal gas tragedy, in which the court has given verdict recently, show that loss of human lives did not matter for the policy makers. The relatives of the victims will hold a prayer meet at Smriti Upvan outside the Uphaar cinema to commemorate the 13th anniversary of the horrific tragedy on Sunday.
Mrs Krishnamoorthy said that the recent incidents of fire in Bengaluru and Kolkata and the judgement in the Bhopal gas tragedy that came after 25 years, prove that human life is of little value for our policy-makers.
On June 13, 1997, at least 59 people had died and several others were injured when a fire broke out in the Uphaar cinema hall.
