Priest arrested for raping girl
A 55-year-old priest was arrested by the Delhi police on Monday from Bihar’s Darbhanga district for allegedly raping a Class 10 student in northeast Delhi’s Seemapuri area.
The police said the accused, identified as Narayan Jha, was arrested from his native village in Darbhanga district on May 16 for allegedly raping the victim at her residence.
The incident took place on May 10 when the victim was alone at her Seemapuri house.
“The accused, who used to frequent the victim’s residence, found her alone and started making indecent gestures. When the victim resisted, the accused allegedly raped her and threatened her not to tell anyone about it,” a senior police official said.
The incident came to light on Monday when the victim developed a pain in lower abdomen and her parents rushed her to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
“The family got to know about the rape at the hospital through doctors following which a complaint was filed at the Seemapuri police station and a case was registered,” the official said.
“The accused was arrested on Monday from his native village in Bihar by a team of policemen investigating the matter. He was brought to the national capital today and produced in a court,” said deputy commissioner of police (northeast) S.K. Jain.
