Private schools pipped again
The students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) and Kendriya Vidyalayas (Central Schools) in Delhi have fared better than those of private schools in the CBSE Class 12 exams.
According to a statement issued by the CBSE, the pass percentage of JNVs at 96.52 per cent and KVs at 95.63 per cent is a lot better than that of the private schools. The private schools in Delhi have a pass percentage of 89.71, marginally up from 87.18 percent in 2010.
Government schools in the city registered a pass percentage of 87.48 per cent against last year’s 88.86.
Nation-wide, the pass percentage of JNVs went up to 96.89 per cent from 95.31 per cent last year, and that of the KVs to 93.38 per cent from 91.13 in 2010.
Meanwhile, despite being hampered by non-availability of textbooks, lack of teachers, and proper accommodation, the Urdu-medium schools in the city posted a pass percentage of nearly 80 per cent in CBSE Class 12.
The dozen or so Urdu-medium schools, mostly concentrated in the Old City area, run by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, posted an overall pass percentage of 79.15 per cent this year, said education activist Firoz Bakht Ahmed of the NGO, Friends for Education.
