Protest, arson at juvenile centre
A group of 12 juvenile delinquents created ruckus at the Juvenile Detention Centre in Majnu Ka Tila on Thursday, demanding better food and facilities.
A senior police official said the juveniles created ruckus on Wednesday night and then on Thursday morning.
The December 16 gangrape accused is also lodged at the same correction home.
The fire department got a call about a fire at 4 am on Thursday and four fire engines were rushed to the juvenile home. The fire was brought under control within half an hour, said fire officials.
A senior police official said the juveniles went on rampage after they had an argument with the caretaker during Wednesday night dinner. It is also reported that the juvenile climbed the roof and pelted stones at nearby homes. They then set several blankets on fire and started shouting slogans against the warden and management.
A police source said the juveniles were not happy with the quality of the food served to them. They also complained that the staff misbehaved with them. According to information, the Delhi government has initiated an inquiry into the matter.
“The wardens would be questioned over the complaints,” said minister of education, social welfare, women and child development Kiran Walia.
