RAF deployed to secure plant
The Ghaziabad administration on Wednesday deployed personnel of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) to prevent anybody from taking over at the Sonia Vihar head regulator, through which Ganga water reaches Delhi’s Sonia Vihar water treatment plant, in Muradnagar.
The move comes three days after members of the Jat community took control of the regulator and stopped supply to Delhi on Sunday while demanding reservation for Jats across the country.
According to the Ghaziabad administration official, the RAF also staged flag marches in Jat-dominated villages in the area on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. The newly appointed district magistrate, Hridesh Kumar, who replaced R. Ramesh following the incident, has directed the personnel to ensure that nobody was allowed to take law in their hands.
Meanwhile, the circle officer of Muradnagar area and four other police personnel have been sent to district lines by the senior superintendent of police (Ghaziabad) A.K. Singh. He passed the orders following a preliminary inquiry into failure to gather local intelligence that the members of the Jat community were planning to take control of the regulator.
The members of the Jat community are planning to hold mahapanchayat on the issue and to decide further course of action.
A group of Jats, demanding reservation in higher education and government jobs, had blocked the water supply to the capital that led to a water crisis.
