Rahul makes Cong leaders sink differences

In a marathon four-and-half-hour meeting on Thursday with the party’s elected representatives and office-bearers, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi managed to stem the infighting and factionalism in the city unit of the ruling party.
Sources said, Mr Gandhi interacted with Congress MPs, MLAs and dignitaries separately and asked them to work together for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Concerned over the reports of alleged cold war among the lobbies of DPCC chief J.P. Aggarwal and chief minister Sheila Dikshit, Mr Gandhi said that he will take a stern view of such activities if any in future.
“He said that the Congress president (Mrs Sonia Gandhi) is soft but he is not, and he will not tolerate any kind of indiscipline in the party,” said a source.
The message from the Congress vice president was loud and clear, that those who have been sulking for different results must strengthen the hands of chief minister Sheila Dikshit and prepare to get a fourth term for the Congress party in Delhi.
The Congress party has made a history of sorts with three consecutive wins in the Delhi Assembly elections.
“Mr Gandhi also said that the party should go to the public with the good work of the government in last 15 years,” the source added.
Though Mr Gandhi avoided interacting with media, state unit chief J.P. Aggarwal came out of the meeting and said, “We had some differences earlier but now everything is fine. As Mr Rahul Gandhi said we will work together for the fourth consecutive win in the Assembly elections.”
Mr Aggarwal and Ms Dikshit are likely to hold a joint press conference in a couple of days.
When asked how the years-old differences vanished in 4.30 hours, Mr Aggarwal said, “It was not any property dispute. It was just difference in our points of view.”
Apart from directing the partymen to concentrate on Assembly elections, Mr Gandhi also sought decentralisation of power and asked that the opinion of the lowest dignitary must also be taken in any decision.
“Mr Gandhi emphasised on the need of decentralisation of power. The decision-making power should not be in the hands of a few people,” said Congress MP and Union minister Kapil Sibal.
Congress MP from West Delhi, Mahabal Mishra said that Mr Gandhi asked the MPs, MLAs and senior dignitaries to invite the councillors, block presidents and every party worker to give his or her opinion in decision making.
