Raids unearth power theft
Joint raids by BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BPYL) and the Delhi police in the last 15 days unearthed power theft of 3,789 KW in east and central Delhi. According to a BSES official, the factory owners who were stealing electricity in Krishna Nagar, east Delhi, have promised to take legal connections.
“These illegal factories are stealing electricity to the tune of 5,000 KW per month, causing a loss of `2 crores per month to BYPL. The company has also levied penalties of over `4.50 crores against them. If these penalties are not paid within a stipulated period of time, cases will be filed in the Special Court of Electricity, where the accused can also get jail term of up to 5 years,” said the official.
“The illegal jeans factories in Krishna Nagar, Seelampur, Yamuna Vihar areas indulge in large-scale power-theft and hence raids were conducted with police help,” said the official.
