Rain brings waterlogging to city
With the onset of monsoon, the city is now dealing with the problem of waterlogging, which is likely to get worse with all the digging being carried out for various Games projects. On Monday, the MCD control rooms received 95 complaints of waterlogging. However, the MCD claimed that it was prepared to deal with the problems of waterlogging.
Besides waterlogging, 11 trees also got uprooted and portions of at least three buildings were damaged in the rain since Sunday night. The maximum number of complaints came from south zone, followed by Central zone and then by Rohini and Najafgarh zones. No waterlogging were received from city and Sadar Paharganj zones.
Meanwhile, chairman of the works committee, Jagdish Mamgain, said that the MCD was prepared to deal with the situation. Besides setting up of 24-hour control rooms in all its 12 zones, apart from the central control rooms, the MCD has also identified 139 most vulnerable points in terms of waterlogging. A pump station, equipped with diesel generators, have been installed at all these points to ensure that water is flushed out immediately after the rain.
