Rains lash city, traffic affected
Heavy rains lashed the city on Sunday and caused waterlogging and traffic jams. It started drizzling early morning in various parts of the capital and in a matter of time turned into heavy showers.
The Sunday rains took place after a gap of about five days during which the capital witnessed no showers.
The weather department said that Delhi recorded 43 mm of rainfall in just two hours from 8.30 am on Sunday morning. The day long showers also brought down the day temperature to 23.1 degrees Celsius, while the humidity was recorded between 66 per cent and 96 per cent.
Various parts of the capital, including Maharani Bagh, Ashram, Mathura Road, Defence Colony, Bhogal, Malviya Nagar and parts of the Walled City reported cases of waterlogging, according to the MCD. Delhi has so far recorded 200 mm rains this September.

72 dengue cases, count now 2,296
New Delhi, Sept. 19: The dengue menace continues unabated in the capital with 72 more patients testing positive for the vector-borne disease on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 2,296.
The capital has reported five dengue deaths this season.
During the same period last year, the number of cases of the vector-borne disease in the city was only 21, while it was 369 and 75 in the corresponding periods in 2008 and 2007.
The civic bodies are attributing the rapid increase in dengue cases this season to prolonged monsoon and stagnation of water at Commonwealth Games construction sites.
The dengue outbreak has also raised concern among several countries which are sending teams to participate in the Games to be held here next month. Over 20 nations had sought information from the Games Organising Committee about the dengue outbreak and the steps being taken to combat it. —PTI
