Rape by cop: Dikshit feels ‘very disturbed’
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday stated that the rape of a 30-year-old woman allegedly by a traffic policeman is a “very serious matter” and appropriate action will be taken against the guilty.
“It is not tolerable. I think it is something we all feel very disturbed about,” added Ms Dikshit on the incident that shocked the city on May 23.
A traffic constable and his friend were arrested for allegedly raping the woman in a moving car. “The police has to take action. I am sure that action against the guilty will be taken according to whatever their rules and regulations are,” said the chief minister.
Meanwhile, the police officers said that the accused constable and his friend had befriended the woman over a period of time and on Sunday night, after having dinner at her residence, they all had gone out in a car. In the FIR, the victim had stated that the constable and his friend overpowered her and took turns to rape her inside the car. She was dropped at her house on Monday morning.
The police has so far said that the woman approached police in the evening after which a medical examination was conducted.
