Rape victim’s kin file complaint

The relatives of the five- year-old girl, who was raped on April 15, on Friday lodged a complaint with the Delhi Commission for Women and the Delhi police on the state of the victim.

The complaint claimed that despite promises made by top political leaders ranging from the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj to Lok Sabha Speaker Meera Kumar, the victim or the family have not got any assistance. It was also alleged in the complaint that the family was not even allowed to enter Nirmal Bhartia School at Sector 14, Dwarka by guards when they went for admission of the victim. The girl’s parents are daily wage labourers.
However, when contacted, the management made it categorically clear that the school was not approached by the parents. Claiming that the school is “quite sensitive” to such cases, the management said that it came to know about the incident only after the report was published in the newspaper.
The complaint lodged with DCW and Delhi police by the victim’s father, a resident of Gandhi Nagar, east Delhi, stated that the top political leaders who came to see the victim at the hospital had assured all possible support. “Nothing has happened as yet,” the complaint read.
The family has finally settled down in Dwarka after switching residence in at least four localities since the incident. The complaint with regard to admission read: “When I went to the school for her admission, the guard sent us away from the gate saying that there will be no admission before January next year.” The family left without being able to meet the school authorities. Speaking to this correspondent, the victim’s uncle said, “The guard did not allow us to enter despite repeated requests.”
The management maintained that had the school been aware, it would have taken necessary steps. A school official said, “I don’t even know if they came or when they came. We have to maintain strict security for the safety of the children during school hours.”
On the reporter trying to contact the school authorities for reaction, it was made clear that the school closes down before 5 pm after which the calls were made.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
