Removal of debris is still a issue
The agencies in the capital just do not seem to be able to reach a situation where removal of construction debris can be taken up in the right earnest. With rains disrupting street-scaping work on the roads and some of the important projects still being finished, construction debris continue to lie around. So far, out of 23 Games sites, where construction debris still remains, the Delhi government and the civic agencies have so far cleaned up only 12 sites.
While, the Delhi government officials still claim that the debris from all the sites will be removed till September 10, sources in the Delhi government have stated that the Delhi chief minister, Sheila Dikshit, on Wednesday ordered a special city government team to visit various Games sites to make sure that the Delhi government is not falling short of its claims. Earlier, the deadline for clearing the debris had been extended to August 31. The visits were focused on Central and South Delhi, including areas like Connaught Place, Paharganj, and Karol Bagh where considerable demotion waste is present.
