Robbers gag, kill senior citizen, flee in his car
A gang of assailants barged into a senior citizen’s northwest Delhi residence on Thursday night, tied him with ropes, gagged him and slit his throat before decamping with his car.
The incident occurred at 68-year-old Ramavtar Gupta’s ground-floor residence in Ashok Vihar on Thursday night, the police said.
The incident came to light when the victim’s car was found at a desolate spot in outer Delhi’s Bhalsawa Dairy at 10 am on Friday by the local police who contacted Gupta’s son, Vijender after identifying the car’s owner.
“Vijender told us that the Maruti Swift car was registered in his name and it was being used by his father. We asked him to come and rushed to the house where we found Ramavatar lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit and limbs tied with a plastic rope,” a senior police official said.
The police said Gupta owned a tyre business in Karol Bagh and his sons live in Punjabi Bagh. “Gupta had been staying at the house since 1949. He had been living alone after his wife passed away eleven years ago. His sons say they used to visit him regularly,” said the officer.
“Ramavtar was the only person who knew the value of the items missing from the house. The assailants seem to have fled in his car,” he said.
