Robbers loot `22 lakhs in cash, gold
A dozen robbers looted cash and jewellery worth several crores from a finance company office in Shalimar Garden area of Ghaziabad on Saturday. The police has detained two employees of the company on suspicion. While initially, there were claims that gold and jewellery packets worth `1 crore has gone missing, the police said that only 80 packets of gold jewellery, which were roughly valued at `16 lakhs and `6 lakhs in cash, were missing after a detailed inventory was prepared.
The incident occurred around 9.30 am at the Shalimar Garden Extens-ion-II office of Muthoot Finance Limited which gives loan against gold jewellery. Nearly a dozen armed men entered the office and overpowered the security guard and snatched his gun. They removed CCTV camera sensors and destroyed two surveillance cameras.
The dacoits snatched the locker keys from the manager and took out packets of gold jewellery and `6 lakhs in cash. The chief marketing manager of the company initially claimed that gold worth `1 crore had been robbed. Talking to this newspaper, senior superintendent of police (Ghaziabad), Raghubir Lal, said that initially it was claimed that 574 packets of gold jewellery were missing. “However, 494 packets have been found. Each such packet is valued in a range of `14,000 to `20,000,” said Mr Lal. An employee Vinay Yadav and an official Shailendra Mohan Jha, have been detained on suspicion, he said.
