Robbers loot S. Delhi flats
A gang of unidentified robbers carried out a daring heist on Wednesday night in south Delhi’s Saket area, barging into at least 10 houses and looting cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees.
The incident took place in government flats in Block nos 10, 12, 13 and 15 located in Pushp Vihar’s Sector 7 in Saket, close to the office of special staff of south Delhi police. The sources revealed that the burglars broke open the locks of the residences and escaped with cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees.
The colony is inhabited mostly by government servants working with defence and home ministries. Pradeep, who works as a constable with Prime Minister’s security said that cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees was missing from his residence. “My family had gone to our village to make preparations for a wedding while I was on duty. When I came back, I saw the house ransacked.”
Deputy commissioner of police (south) H.G.S. Dhaliwal was not available for comments but sources said that preliminary investigations are suggesting that the robbery was “well-planned” and the involvement of local gang of criminals is suspected. Police sources also revealed that the CPWD is carrying out construction work in the area and the involvement of labourers involved can’t be ruled out. The security guard of the colony has told the police that he saw two men roaming suspiciously in the area on the night of the incident.
