RWAs join chorus for Games graft probe
Amid growing demand for action against corruption in the organisation of Commonwealth Games, Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs) have also joined in calling for action against the guilty.
Asking for a thorough probe into the alleged financial irregularities, president of the Federation of RWAs in east Delhi, Anil Bajpai, said in a statement that people need to be told where the money meant for the Commonwealth Games was spent.
“Delhiites underwent a harrowing time in the last few years due to widespread construction activities in the capital. Our money is involved in the projects. Hence, we have a right to know where so much money was spent,” asked Mr Bajpai in a statement issued to the media.
The federation of RWAs also called for examination of the manner in which project cost escalation took place.
“It’s time to audit the whole process of preparation for the mega sporting events. The scope of audit should include cost escalation of various construction works, including the venues, stadiums and other infrastructure projects apart from ticketing, procurement and outsourcing,” he added further.
The RWAs also called for probe into the expenses of government bodies, including the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Delhi government, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
