S. Delhi girl, a minor, files rape complaint

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 27-year-old driver in Malviya Nagar area of south Delhi, the police said on Thursday.

The police said the victim, who works in a private company was having a live-in relationship with the accused, identified as Basant. The accused had befriended her in Malviya Nagar area on the promise of marrying her and the two had started living together in the neighbouring Gurgaon over the last one month.
“However, the accused recently started ignoring her pleas of marriage and was also having a relationship with another girl which irked the victim. When she confronted him, the accused told her that he doesn’t remember any such promise and that he will abandon her if she were to raise the issue of marriage with him again,” a senior police official said.
The sources said the victim then approached the Malviya Nagar police station with a complaint against the accused Basant. “She was taken to AIIMS where a medical examination confirmed the sexual assault following which the accused was arrested. He was produced in a court which has sent him to judicial remand,” the official said.
