S-I caught taking bribe, arrested
A sub-inspector posted in south Delhi was caught taking bribe at the Hauz Khas police station by Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday afternoon.
Police sources said the incident took place on Friday afternoon when the deputy commissioner of police (south) Chhaya Sharma was holding a meeting with the assistant commissioners and station house officers of south district at her Hauz Khas office when a team of CBI officials arrived at Hauz Khas police station and caught a sub-inspector, identified as Pawan Yadav, demanding and accepting a bribe of `20,000 from a person accused in a case of cheating registered at the Hauz Khas police station.
Pawan had been recently inducted into the force and was reportedly under probationary period. Sources said there was a high-voltage drama at the police station at the time of the incident as all the senior police officials of the district were attending the meeting with DCP Sharma when the raid took place.
“The accused sub-inspector was demanding a bribe of `20,000 from a man who was an accused in a cheating case registered at the Hauz Khas police station to clear him of the charges. The victim, however, approached the CBI with the complaint against Yadav and a trap was laid to catch Yadav red-handed,” a source said.
Despite repeated attempts, DCP Sharma was not available for her comments. Sources, however, disclosed that a departmental inquiry has been ordered against the accused who was handcuffed and whisked away in front of all the senior officials to CBI’s Lodhi Road office. Further investigations into the case are on with sources revealing that the accused may be involved in other such cases as well.
