S-I shoots self at work, succumbs
A Delhi police sub-inspector, who was to retire from services this year, committed suicide on Thursday by shooting himself allegedly with his service pistol. Initial investigations in the case revealed that the deceased, Ajit Singh was going through depression due to family and financial problems.
Singh, posted at E-Block security lines near Krishna Menon Marg, died after he shot himself at around 7.30 am. “He was to retire this December,” said a senior police officer.
Singh was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
However, no suicide note was recovered from Singh’s possession. Delhi police commissioner B.K. Gupta said they will investigate what led the S-I to take the extreme step. He said he will check whether stress led to him commit suicide. Singh, a resident of Vishnu Garden in Tilak Nagar area, hailed from Punjab. He is survived by his wife and four children.
