Safdarjung medicos go on indefinite stir

Not satisfied with the assurance given by the Union minister of state for health Dinesh Trivedi over the issue of security inside the hospital premises, medicos at the Safdarjung hospital decided to continue with their indefinite strike which started off on Tuesday.

“We will continue our strike as there was no solid assurance given by the Union minister of state for health Dinesh Trivedi regarding security facility inside the hospital premises. We had demanded security of the hospital premises by the Central paramilitary forces which has been denied,” Safdarjung hospital RDA joint secretary Pratap Dutta said.
Over 700 resident doctors of Safdarjung Hospital went on an indefinite strike after one of their female colleagues was allegedly roughed up by the relatives of a patient.
The incident occurred on Monday when the doctor working with gynaecology department was beaten up by relatives following the death of a pregnant woman.
“We are on strike since 9.30 am. We will continue this till we are assured of better security,” a doctor on strike said.
“The patients relatives are not ready to understand that the patient had dengue and she was three months pregnant. Her case became complicated. We tried our utmost to save her. This is the not for the first time that an incident like this has happened. It has become a routine to get manhandled by the patients’ relatives,” he said.
“The medical superintendent tried to evade by saying that a tender for employing more security personnel has been floated. But the fact is this is a very old news and its been two months and no development on this front has happened,” he added.
The medical services were badly hit in both the OPDs and wards.
“I didn’t know that the doctors are on strike. I came all the way from Meerut to consult the doctor for cancer,” Bhagwati, a patient said. The patients in the wards were also affected due to the strike.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
