Satyawati College cancels sports quota
The Satyawati College has cancelled all sports quota admissions for the 2011-12 session. This is for the first time that any college has cancelled admissions in the sports quota.
Irregularities in sports quota admissions were registered in July and a committee was set up to probe the matter.
The committee reported irregularities in the trials and admissions for almost all the games except three. Out of 44 admissions, 40 admissions were fake and only four were genuine cases. Hence, the list of the selected candidates was declared null and void.
But the college administration has now said that no admissions in sports quota will take place this year. The college administration has decided to penalise those responsible for the irregularities.
“We are planning to set up a committee that will take a decision in this regard. We may also refer this case to the governing council which will decide what punishment is to be given to the guilty,” a college official said.
The matter in the irregularities of the sports quota admission came to light when a student reported the matter to the grievance committee.
The first complaint was registered pertaining to irregularities in kabaddi. After the first complaint, more started pouring in pertaining to other games and the college took serious note of it.
By that time a list of 44 students was ready, only four students were found to be genuine sportspersons.
Trials for badminton, khokho, kabaddi, athletics, cricket, taekwondo, judo, softball, baseball, netball, basket ball and volley ball were held.
