SC seeks data on power consumed by hoardings
In the wake of national capital’s demand of power shooting over 5,000 MW per month, the Supreme Court on Tuesday sought details form the civic agencies and three power distributing companies on actual percentage of electricity consumed on lighting the electric advertisement hoardings coming up fast in
the capital’s landscape. A bench of Justices D.K. Jain and A. K. Ganguly directed the MCD, NDMC and three private power distributing companies owned by Reliance and Tata, were asked to furnish the details by September 20 in a pending PIL on power crisis in Delhi.
“The MCD and NDMC must be collecting tax on hoarding. The electric advertisement boards must be consuming a lot of power,” the bench said asking the power companies whether the supply to these hoardings was through separate meters.
While assessing the total percentage of power consumed by the hoardings, the top court said it should also include electric advertisement boards installed in new bus stops built during preparation for commonwealth games, pointing out that all the bus stops had got huge electric boards installed.
