School teacher held on rape charge
The Delhi police has arrested a school teacher for his alleged involvement in raping and threatening a woman. The incident was reported at the Ambedkar Nagar police station on December 23. The accused has been identified as Ram Avtar, 40.
According to the police, the victim, 27, came with her parents to the police station and claimed that the accused has been raping her since 2004. The accused works as a teacher in Government Boys’ Senior Secondary School in Ambedkar Nagar.
“The victim alleged that she was a student of the accused in 2002 and she took tuition classes from him at his home. She said that the accused lured her with the promise of a good government job. In 2004, the accused took her to a hotel in Rajasthan and allegedly raped her and made an MMS using his cellphone. Since, then he was allegedly threatening the victim and raping her often,” said a senior police official adding that the victim is a postgraduate from Delhi University.
The police has arrested the accused Ram Avtar who hails from Rajasthan. A city court remanded him to five days’ police custody. The Delhi government has suspended the accused.
A police team has also been sent to Rajasthan to collect the details of the hotel where she was allegedly raped. The accused has three daughters and a son.
