Security beefed up for I-Day
Thick security blanket would be put in place around Red Fort and other areas of the capital for Independence Day celebrations. The Delhi traffic police has also announced traffic restrictions that would be in place during the celebrations on Sunday.
Apart from the local police, commandos of the Delhi police would be manning the area from atop houses around the Red Fort. Air surveillance would also be maintained to ward off any untoward incident. Besides, anti-aircraft guns would also be placed around the Red Fort ramparts from where the PM will address the nation. Checking of vehicles on the border will begin from Saturday night and on Independence Day train and air movement would be stopped till the time the celebrations continue. The Delhi police commissioner, Y.S. Dadwal, has also asked the local police to be alert on the occasion. Meanwhile, Delhi traffic police has announced closure of some roads for general traffic from 5 am to 9 am and only labelled vehicles will be allowed. Those without parking labels should avoid Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg and Ring Road between Nizamuddin Bridge and ISBT Bridge.
