Security reviewed by Pillai
The Centre on Saturday reviewed the security set-up for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in the capital.
Home secretary Gopal K. Pillai reviewed the arrangements being put in place at the various Games venues. Mr Pillai visited the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, the venue of both opening and closing ceremonies, and conducted an on the spot assessment of the security measures being put in place.
The home ministry has already asked the Delhi government to project its demand for the number of Central force personnel required during the Games. MHA sources said that Delhi government may also request neighbouring states like Haryana to deploy its personnel to aid the Delhi police and other security agencies during the Games events. CRPF officials here said that the paramilitary force has already starting doing recce of the areas of its deployment and is in the process of setting up its camps. The CRPF has decided to provide its dog squads, mahila contingent and commandos to the Delhi government during the Games, sources said.
The home secretary on Saturday interacted with officials of the organising committee and the Delhi police who gave him a detailed presentation.
The mega sporting event is scheduled to be held between October 3 and 14. At least 10,000 players and support staff from 71 nations are expected to participate in the Games.
