Seeking job quota, jats resolve to disrupt CWG
A large number of Jat community members demanding reservation in jobs attempted to storm the Commonwealth Games office on Wednesday afternoon but were prevented by police.
The protesters marched towards the Games headquarters from their protest site, a few hundred metres away at Jantar Mantar, the police said. However, a large number of police personnel deployed near the protest site prevented the protesters from reaching the office. Police officials confirmed that around 50 protesters were detained. “However, they were later released,” said the police.
The Jat Mahasabha, which is spearheading the protest, threatened that they will try everything possible to disrupt the sporting extravaganza if their demands are not met with.
The principal secretary of the Jat Mahasabha said, “We have earlier stopped the water supply to Delhi from Ghaziabad and if our demands for reservations are not met, we will not hesitate to do it again.” He added that the Games is a symbol of imperialism and it is sad that the government of an independent country like India has taken the organising of these Games as a prestige issue.”
However, a Delhi government officials claimed that situation is normal and there is no threat to the Games. “The law-and-order during the games will be maintained,” said a senior government official.
