Sheila calls Cabinet meeting in hospital
Showing dedication to work and governance, chief minister Sheila Dikshit called a Cabinet meeting in the hospital where she is admitted for treatment. Because of her sickness, the Delhi Cabinet meeting, which was scheduled on Monday,
was postponed. However, Ms Dikshit called her ministers to the hospital on Wednesday evening and presided over the Cabinet meeting.
In the meeting, the government has decided to transfer the roads measuring 60 feet and above under MCD to the city government for maintenance.
Earlier in the monsoon session, the Delhi transport minister Arvinder Singh Lovely had claimed that the high-end low-floor DTC buses are not able to travel on the damaged roads in the interior areas.
“In order to maintain the desired road quality, the city government provides plan assistance to MCD through its annual budget. The condition of municipal roads all over Delhi has become pathetic and has raised a lot of concern. The entire length of Delhi roads network is more than 31 thousand km out of which MCD has a road network of 27 thousand km,” Ms Dikshit said in a statement after the Cabinet meeting.
The DTC also reported that it has withdrawn the low-floor buses from the rural and urban areas as the condition of roads there was becoming a cause of damage to its buses.
“The Cabinet has decided to transfer 499 roads with road length of 863 km to the city government. The government and its agencies will maintain these roads,” she added. Besides, the government also approved a scheme for providing financial assistance to HIV positive people in the city.
