Sheila to face BJP onslaught
The Budget session of the Delhi Assembly, which begins Tuesday, is all set to be a stormy affair, as the Opposition BJP is unrelenting on its demand for the immediate sacking of the PWD minister Raj Kumar Chouhan following the Lokayukta recommendation in this regard to the President.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, V.K. Malhotra, on Monday led a delegation of BJP MLAs to President Pratibha Patil to demand the implementation of the Lokayukta’s recommendation.
Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri on Monday hosted a luncheon get together for the MLAs on the eve of the Budget Session which was, however, not attended by the BJP legislators.
“Prof. Malhotra had intimated me that since the MLAs were going to meet the President, they would not be able to attend the get together,” said Dr Shastri.
The Budget Session of the Delhi Assembly will commence on Tuesday with the inaugural address by lieutenant-governor Tejendra Khanna. “On the first day, the Assembly will pass a motion to condole the deaths and loss of property in Japan due to the earthquake and tsunami. The House will take up the motion of thanks to the lieutenant-governor’s address on Wednesday,” Dr Shastri added. Chief minister Sheila Dikshit will present the Budget on March 22.
The Opposition has served a caution to the government that it would agitate if Mr Chouhan is not sacked before the Session begins. The BJP is also likely to agitate during the address of the L-G. The party will also vociferously raise the issue of deteriorating law and order situation in the city, with a special discussion listed on the issue for March 29.
The Assembly will have 13 sittings in all and the Session will come to an end on March 31.
