Sheila to inaugurate mango festival
If you want to take a bite at a mango as small as litchi and as big as a papaya, then head to the 22nd Mango Festival at Dilli Haat, Pitampura where around 400 mango varieties will be on display. Chief minister Sheila Dikshit will inaugurate the festival on Friday.
The mango festival will also have a competition for mango growers in 10 varieties — Dussehri, Langra, Chausa, Mallika, Husnara, Ratul, Ramkela, Fazli, Amrapali, big size and assorted varieties.
Delhi tourism department, the organiser, said that this year’s festival has attracted participation from the traditional growers of mango who have attained expertise over the years like Central Institute for Sub-Tropical Horticulture, Rehman Khera, Lucknow, UP State Horticultural Co-Operative Marketing Federation, Rajya Krishi Utpadan Mandi Parishad, IARI, Bihar Agriculture College, RAU, Sabour, GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar and the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana among others.
More than 400 varieties of mangoes will be on display during the festival, which will exhibit rare as well as commercially popular varieties. There will be mango eating competition for women on July 3 and for men on July 4.
