Sheila puts onus of work on ministers
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit has told each Cabinet minister to oversee the Commonwealth games projects in their respective backyards to make sure that there are no lapses in the preparations for the event.
In an informal meeting convened by Ms Dikshit on Wednesday morning, all ministers were warned that any oversight can lead to major embarrassment during Games.
“Her main concern was that deadlines for several projects are already stretched and should be met at all costs now. Another reason for asking us to oversee the work is that she wants that the aesthetics of projects should not be compromised in the last-minute rush,” said a minister.
Ministers have been asked to take charge of work in the areas they live in. Education minister Arvin-der Singh Lovely has been told to monitor work in Games Village and Yamuna Sports Complex.
Delhi finance minister A.K. Walia has been asked to oversee the projects in east Delhi.
Health minister Kiran Walia has been put in charge of south Delhi. She has been told keep a tab on medical facilities for Games. PWD minister Rajkumar Chauhan has been told to ensure that all PWD projects which includes flyovers, street-scaping and street lighting are in place. Social welfare minister Mangat Ram Singhal will manage projects in north Delhi and food and civil supplies minister Haroon Yusuf has been asked to oversee work in Old Delhi.
