Sheila reads out 15-yr report card

On the last day of Delhi Assembly’s Monsoon Session, chief minister Sheila Dikshit made a suo moto statement and read out the report card of her government’s rule of last 15 years which irked the opposition. The BJP MLAs were suspended from the House for interrupting the CM’s statement. Defending Delhi from the tag of “rape capital”, the chief minister said that most of the rapes were reported in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh. She also blamed BJP ruled states — Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh — for shielding hoarders resulting in severe rise in prices of onions in the national capital. The BJP accused the government of hijacking the Assembly for its own propaganda.
As the proceedings of the House started, BJP MLAs raised the issue of non-payment of pension to the elderly and others since last one year.
Dissatisfied with the answer of minister Kiran Walia, the opposition demanded a clarification from the chief minister. After not getting any satisfactory answer, the BJP MLAs walked out from the House.
“The chief minister claims that more than 65 per cent of her annual budget goes to the social sector but the eligible persons are not getting pension from last one year. The government is not ready to reply on the issue,” Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra told reporters here.
At 3 pm when BJP MLAs came back to their seats for discussions under Section 280, the Speaker allowed the chief minister to make a suo moto statement. On this, the BJP legislators got furious and interrupted her statement demanding debate on the issues of water, power and pension. The BJP MLAs continued to create ruckus.
Delhi minister Arvinder Singh Lovely then brought a resolution to suspend BJP MLAs and it was passed. Subsequently all BJP legislators were suspended for the day.
