Sheila tells depts to assist in inquiry
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit is learnt to have asked all departments of the city government to keep relevant documents ready and to “fully cooperate” in the inquiry with investigators, after the Prime Minister ordered a probe into the Commonwealth Games corruption and the Comptroller and Auditor General also having begun its audit.
Ms Dikshit on Monday presided over a Cabinet meeting and reportedly called for keeping records of all expenditure incurred on preparations for Games in readiness. “Directions have been given by the chief minister so that the documents could be made available to any probe agency wanting to scrutinise them,” stated a senior official.
The Delhi government has reportedly spent about `16,000 crores on various infrastructure projects along with incurring expenditure in preparations of the Commonwealth Games.
A month before the Games, an analysis by Chief Technical Examination Wing of the Central Vigilance Commission had found alleged financial and administrative irregularities in 16 construction and procurement projects, with six of them relating to the PWD, three to the MCD, two each to the CPWD, DDA, NDMC and one having been undertaken by RITES, a Government of India enterprise.
Meanwhile, Delhi PWD minister Raj Kumar Chouhan, when asked whether his department has received any fresh communication from the CVC, only said that he has issued instructions to the staff to fully cooperate with the CVC. “It is a routine communication. I have already directed my officials to cooperate with all probe agencies,” he added.
