Shifted officials to continue till Budget exercise
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday got some relief after meeting Union home minister P. Chidambaram and the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as the Centre allowed the transferred top officials to stay with the city government till the Delhi Budget.
Ms Dikshit met Mr Chidambaram and Mr Singh on Tuesday evening to discuss the issue of transfer of top officials without consulting her.
“It has now been decided that no official will be relieved till the Delhi Budget is presented. Also, the officials who have not completed four years with the city government, like the chief executive officer of Delhi Jal Board, Ramesh Negi, the managing director of DSIIDC, Chetan Sanghi, and Delhi transport commissioner R. K. Verma, will stay with the city government,” said a senior officer.
However, VAT commissioner Jalaj Srivastava and PWD principal secretary K.K. Sharma would be relieved after the Budget is presented in the Delhi Assembly next month.
Government sources meanwhile said that the home ministry has allowed certain ‘’adjustments’’ following Ms Dikshit’s intervention. The sources however clarified that the MHA has brought in a policy wherein officers are informed few months in advance about their transfers and postings which are linked to the ending of their tenure.
Ms Dikshit had faced a major embarrassment last week when the Union home ministry transferred key officials without even consulting her.
