Shooter held with ammunition
A 40-year-old shooter was arrested by the Delhi police from the New Delhi Railway Station on Wednesday morning for carrying live ammunition in a large quantity.
The police said the accused, identified as Roming Liam, a member of Mizoram Rifles Club, who had come to the city for a shooting competition, was held when he refused to let his bag through a scanning machine at the station. “When the carton was opened, we found 1,025 bullets of .22 bore rifle and five bullets of .32 bore file in it,” a police official said.
“There were around five other shooters who underwent the security check and were carrying arms license and the permission to carry arms. Roming was not carrying any authorised permission,” said the official.
Roming, who was on his way to board a train to Guwahati, was handed to the police after which he was jointly questioned by the sleuths of special cell and intelligence bureau. The police meanwhile registered a case against him under the Arms Act after interrogating him. The accused has told the police that he is the coach of a shooting team in Mizoram.
“He had come for a shooting competition but did not carry any authorised papers to carry the arms,” said additional deputy commissioner (railways) B.S. Gurjar. The official said Roming had purchased the cartridges from his contact in Tughlakabad in southeast Delhi. The police is now on the lookout for the person who allegedly sold the cartridges to Roming.
