Shopkeeper shot dead during match
A young shopkeeper, who was watching the Indo-Pak cricket match on Wednesday, was found shot dead in mysterious circumstances at the end of the match in neighbouring Ghaziabad. The police, however, said that a supposed argument between him and some people over the match did not seem to be the reason behind the incident, as was believed initially.
According to the Ghaziabad police, Vishal Gupta, a resident of Pratap Vihar area in Ghaziabad, was spotted unconscious in his shop around 10.30 pm. Gupta, who had gunshot wounds on his body, was rushed to a Noida hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Eyewitnesses claimed that when the match was going on Vishal, had a tiff with a group of people.
After the end of the Indian innings in the evening, Vishal reportedly commented that India was going to lose the match. This had apparently not gone down well with a group of men also watching the match in his shop. They had strongly objected to it.
However, the police said that the investigations so far has not indicated that the murder was a result of a face-off between spectators during the match. “Investigations are still on and the motive or the identity of the assailants is still not clear,” said a senior police official.
The police has not ruled out that business rivalry or personal enmity as possible reasons behind the incident.
