Showers cool off city, traffic movement hit
A pleasant weather with showers being witnessed in various parts of the city on Tuesday brought with it the usual story of traffic jams on the roads, which continued way beyond the rush hour. The city received only 3 mm rain in the last 24 hours.
According to a traffic police official, traffic disruptions were reported from Lajpat Nagar towards All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, Ashram, Bawana, stretches on Ring Road, like Moti Bagh, Madhuban Chowk to Maharani Bagh and Shadipur Depot to Patel Nagar. One of the worst affected stretches, however, was the outer circle of Connaught Place where traffic continued to crawl even till around 12 noon. Ongoing activities on account of Commonwealth Games only added to the woes. The stretch between Nizamuddin Bridge and Pragati Maidan-Ring Road T-point was also badly affected with vehicles getting stuck in ditches created out of callous work done by the agencies to improve the roads.
The situation began easing out when the pitter patter stopped in the later part of the day. The MCD’s central control room for waterlogging, meanwhile, reported complaints from 25 places. There was one complaint of a tree falling in Central zone.
