Showers lash city, storm trips power
A dust storm followed by a rain Saturday eveningpulled the soaring temperature down below 30 degree Celsius, bringing relief to Delhiites troubled by searing heat for the past few days.
According to the weatherman, this sudden change in weather was due to western disturbances.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 40.3° Celsius, one degree above normal and down from Friday’s 42.6° Celsius.
However, the temperature fell below 30° Celsius after the rains in the evening.
The minimum was recorded at 25.2° Celsius.
However, the sudden rain and strong winds caused power disruption in many areas of north, east and south Delhi as three major power transmission lines tripped.
Officials said the major transmission lines of Delhi Transco Ltd, which maintains the transmission network in the city, tripped at Wazirabad, Mandola and Rajghat affecting supply of power in a number of areas across the city.
The maximum power demand in the city on Saturday came down to 4,097 MW from 4,477 MW on Friday.
The maximum power demand this season was recorded on Thursday when it touched 4,633 MW.
The weatherman has predicted a cool Sunday as well.
“It will be partly cloudy with thunder development in some areas. The temperature will be between 26-39° Celsius,” the Met department said.
