Signal problem hits Metro run again

Commuters on the Jehangirpuri-Gurgaon line of the Delhi Metro were stranded due to signalling trouble in the morning. This is the third such incident in the past one week on the same line.

“There was a signalling problem in one train near Arjangarh. That train was removed as its movement was affecting the movement of the other trains,” a Delhi Metro official said.
The movement of the trains was slow and there was a huge rush on the platforms and it took very long time for the Metro staff to clear the backlog of passengers.
On Sunday too, the services got disrupted due to signalling problems and the services were resumed at 10.30 pm after a gap of two-and-a-half hours.
The Central Secretariat-Gurgaon line is continuously facing signalling problems since its launch. Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said the Delhi Metro has taken special measures to tackle emergency crisis situation like fire outbreaks, terror attacks and major technical breakdowns.
Measures like installing fire and explosion resistant lights and cross passage inside tunnels, which are already in place, will help Delhi Metro tackle emergency situations and to evacuate people
“This has been done to ensure that the lights remain switched on during any emergency situation. These lights also do not have individual switches, rather they can be switched on directly from the station control rooms of the nearby Metro stations,” he said.
Water connection has also been established to quickly extinguish any fire outbreak.
Another measure the Metro has taken is the cross passages inside tunnels. Each underground section is equipped with one to three cross passages between the up and down tunnels.
All the platforms and concourses are also equipped with emergency exit doors so that commuters can be evacuated during any emergency situation.
The busy Rajiv Chowk Station has been provided with windows which open to the Central Park above. These windows can be opened together with the help of a remote device.
This has been done to ensure that if any kind of smoke or polluted air gathers inside the station, it can quickly be removed.
