Snag hits Gurgaon Metro line again

The overhead electrification system of Delhi Metro collapsed for the second time in the last 10 days on Sunday evening, causing a major disruption in services as thousands of people were left stranded on different stations between Central Secretariat and Gurgaon.

The officials said the problem started at around 9.15 pm pm due to the breakdown of OHE and bunching of trains on the line between Jahangirpuri and Gurgaon.
The commuters, most of whom had gone out to enjoy the weekend, were in for a rude shock when they were reached Metro stations and were told that there was inordinate delay in services.
Last week, Delhi Metro faced similar problem which led to a major disruption of services on the same line for over four hours and DMRC chief E. Sreedharan had constituted a committee to look into the incident.
The experts are blaming overloading of trains for OHE breakdown and the matter has been taken up with DMRC officials.
Sources said the problem on overhead electrification between Central Secretariat and Sultanpur stations led to complete disruption of services between Central Secretariat and HUDA City Centre, Gurgaon.
“Sparks were noticed on the OHE and engineers were working on the problem. Hundreds of people could be seen standing outside Sultanpur and other stations after the problem erupted during the evening hours,” a Delhi Metro official said.
The trains running from Central Secretariat towards Jahangirpuri were not affected but the trains towards HUDA City Centre were badly hit. The officials said experts were working to sort out the problem. The security staff had to be deployed to maintain calm at the stations as passengers had a harrowing time due to extended travel time. The officials said the problem was being looked into but the train service was not resumed till last reports came in.
Metro has been hit by such problems earlier as well. On Oct 29, thousands of commuters had a harrowing time on Dwarka-Noida route due a technical snag in the computerised signalling system.
