Snatcher is stabbed at Kirti Nagar
A 25-year-old assailant was allegedly stabbed to death with his own knife when he tried to snatch a mobile from an unidentified man near Kirti Nagar Metro station on Thursday.
Police officials said the deceased, identified as Chitu, a resident of Katputli colony in the Moti Nagar area, was stabbed to death when he forcibly tried to snatch a mobile from a man by holding him hostage on knife-point. Police sources said that the incident took place at around 4 pm outside Kirti Nagar Metro complex.
The police said Chitu tried to rob an unidentified person, who was apparently coming out of Metro station. “He held the accused at knife-point and asked him to handover his mobile and belongings. On this, the accused turned around, snatched his knife and stabbed him in his chest. A pedestrian alerted the police control room,” a police official said. “He was taken to DDU hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. We have got some definite leads into the case and some eyewitnesses are being questioned,” DCP (west) Sharad Agarwal said.
Sources said the deceased was accompanied by two other assailants who escaped from the spot but the police denied such claims. Asked how the accused managed to escape from the area, a senior official said, “He apparently went back to Metro complex and took a train to escape from the area.”
