Some of Games work to miss deadline: Mayor
Amid claims by Delhi mayor P.R. Sawhney that the MCD works related to the Games will be completed by July 31, there are apprehensions that certain works related to the street-scaping and beautification may be completed only in August.
Mr Sawhney, who visited the Games sites on Friday, maintained that nearly 90 per cent of the work has been completed. He added that the remaining work will be completed once the laying of new cables by agencies like the BSES, the NDPL and the MTNL was completed. Some of the roads, which the MCD had improved and strengthened have been cut by the agencies for laying of cables, thus delaying the work.
The mayor claimed that most of the work around Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, particularly the Kushak nullah parking, is complete. The situation is more or less similar around Siri Forts Sports complex, besides a couple of other venues.
But MCD officials said that street beautification and upgradation work in Paharganj and Karol Bagh was going on at a slow pace and may stretch till middle of August before it is completed. In many of the lanes, the improvement and beautification work has begun only recently, they added.
