Spare the rod, encourage kids, MCD teachers told
Delhi Mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney on Friday cautioned the MCD teachers against taking harsh measures to discipline students and urged them to motivate children, including dropouts, to join school.
“Keep the rod away and encourage a child to study in school,” he said at a workshop on corporal punishment, organised by Plan India and Society for All-Round Development on Friday.
The mayor said that corporal punishment is a criminal offence and teachers should provide violence-free environment so that children can study in schools without fear. Adding that it is important to understand the changing needs of students, Mr Sawhney urged teachers, parents and NGOs to work together in bringing children to schools. “By 2013, they should ensure that every child in the city is enrolled in school”.
