Speaker: BJP MLAs suspension right
Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri on Thursday justified expulsion of Opposition BJP MLAs during the Winter session by stating that he had to take such a move to ensure smooth functioning of the House.
Speaking to reporters, Dr Shastri defended his action of expelling the BJP MLAs during the first five days of the six days session by saying that he was left with no other option. “The Opposition was adamant to disrupt the proceedings of the House. I was left with no other choice as I had to ensure that the business of the House was conducted,” added Dr Shastri.
The Speaker also justified the rejection of the demand of the Opposition for a House Committee enquiry into the alleged corruption in the just concluded Commonwealth Games. “The Central government has already ordered three different enquiries into the Commonwealth Games allegations. A House Committee enquiry of the Delhi Assembly would have amounted to belittling the ongoing probe by the Central agencies,” added Dr Shastri.
