Speeding car hits bike, S-I is killed

An elderly sub-inspector was killed in a road accident while a constable was injured when a speeding luxury car hit their motorcycle near India Gate on Monday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses said that the incident was so horrible that the deceased was caught under the wheels of the Hyundai Accent car and dragged for more than a hundred metres. The police said the accused driver was unable to spot the bike as he was allegedly watching a music video on an LCD screen as he took a 180 degree turn near a roundabout on Tilak Marg.
The police said the deceased sub-inspector Hari Ram Ashwini, who was riding pillion, was on his way to the Patiala House Courts Complex with constable Ashwini when a speeding Hyundai Accent rammed into their Pulsar at 12.55 pm. The errant driver Jaspreet Singh, 31, a senior executive at Walklet, a call centre in Noida, and a resident of Vikaspuri, failed to spot the bike and hit it.
“When Singh rammed the car into the bike, Hariram fell off and got stuck under the wheels and was dragged for a hundred metres before the car stopped after crashing into a pavement. A PCR call was made and the victims were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital,” the officer said.
The police said that Singh has been involved in many traffic violations since he started driving and was booked for an accident at Rajouri Garden in 2006. The deceased was a 1974 batch officer and was posted at the Tughlak Road police station. He is survived by his wife, two sons, both Delhi police constables, a daughter, who recently got married.
Singh hadn’t got his license released which was impounded by the police when he was booked recently.
He was driving with a license requisition slip. Singh’s father, Amar Singh retired as the deputy director from the ministry of tourism some years ago. Singh has been arrested for causing death due to negligence. The injured constable is stable and is undergoing treatment.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
