Speeding DTC bus kills boy, driver held
A mob went on rampage and damaged two dozen vehicles after a 14-year-old Class 9 student was crushed to death by a speeding DTC low-floor bus in Sangam Vihar area of southeast Delhi on Tuesday.
A senior police official said the incident took place at around 1 pm. The deceased, identified as Harish Rawat, was a student of government school in Tughlakabad Extension.
“Rawat was crossing the road near Mehrauli-Badarpur Road when he crushed to death by a speeding DTC low-floor bus. He was immediately taken to AIIMS where he was declared brought dead. Eyewitnesses told the police that he got dragged under the bus,” said the police official.
Soon after the incident, a mob gathered at the spot and damaged several buses and other vehicles. This also led to a traffic jam in the area. The police brought the mob under control after half an hour.
The official said the errant bus driver fled from the crime scene with the bus but was arrested. He was identified as Zuber Khan, 30. A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence was filed against him.
